When a fully laden 38 ton tanker was forced off the road by a careless driver, the consequences could have been disastrous. The tanker overturned and all its compartments were ruptured, spilling 33,000 litres of oil across a main road and on to open countryside.
The OAMPS emergency environmental response saw specialist contractors in situ within one hour. They took full control of the incident and all necessary steps to contain and clean up the spillage. The Department of the Environment and the Environment Agency later inspected the site and gave the recovery operation their blessing. Thanks to the OAMPS emergency environmental response, the oil distributor actually enhanced its reputation with the government agencies, who held the plan up as an example to all.
“When a sub contractor caused a major fire at our depot, OAMPS were on site within hours managing the incident and liaising with the relevant emergency services on our behalf. We had never used the emergency response provided by OAMPS before and we are pleased in our hour of need it lived up to our expectations”
Robert Oakley, Eco Oils.
“All responsible oil distributors should have a 24hr Disaster Recovery Plan like this in place.”
Susan Hancock, CEO, Federation of Petroleum Suppliers
“When delivering oil, there is always a risk of a spill, so having a 24hr contingency plan makes sound sense”
Philip Chatfield, Oil Care Campaign Environment Agency
